Meatballs in Onion Gravy
Difficulty: Medium • Serves 4 • Prep: 15 minutes • Cook: 30 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup plain breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons Zeoma Organic Minced Onion, divided
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1½ cups low-sodium beef broth
- Prepared mashed potatoes, for serving
Directions
- Gently mix beef, egg, breadcrumbs, 1 tablespoon minced onion, salt, and pepper. Shape into 16 meatballs.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on several sides, then transfer to a plate.
- Leave about 1 tablespoon of fat in the skillet. Add sliced onion and cook for 5–7 minutes, until softened. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually stir in broth, then add the remaining minced onion. Return meatballs and their juices to the skillet.
- Cover and gently simmer for 12–15 minutes, until the meatballs reach 160°F in the center. If needed, uncover and simmer briefly to thicken the gravy. Serve over mashed potatoes.
